I did not want to be with you,
Simply because you’re beautiful,
I did not want to hold you tight,
Just because I thought you were wonderful,
I did not want to talk all through the night,
Although you were interesting and I lost track of time,
I did not want to kiss your luscious lips,
Or caress your skin with my fingertips,
I didn’t want you to think I was the lying kind,
Just because you drove me out of my mind,
I didn’t want your body pressed against mine,
Although I liked it all of the time,
I didn’t want you to know what you did to me,
Especially when you did it so easily,
I didn’t want to come on too strong,
Without holding you all night long,
I didn’t want to be with you,
Unless you were willing to love me too,
I didn’t want to marry you,
Unless you were ready for commitment
And a love that was true,
I really did want to be with you,
And I’m glad you love me too.
