You Are

You Are

You are a social butterfly,

With lots of friends to fill your days,

As you flit from flower to flower,

You could be good for me,

Making my heart glad,

Putting a smile on my face,

You are a hopeful romantic,

Waiting for love to come your way,

Ready to be kissed,

Afraid you’ll be missed,

Your heart is ripe for love,

You are a modern Cinderella,

Looking for magic to touch your life,

Searching for a charming prince,

Looking for a happy beginning,

Waiting for that midnight clock,

To reveal the truth,

You are a private dancer,

Wanting to please one man,

Playing the role of seductress,

Drawing him into your web,

Closing in quickly,

To secure him with your sweetness,

You are a connoisseur,

Sampling and tasting,

Those that come within reach,

But not committing to one,

While you wait for the special man,

Who will stir your emotions,

You are a modern woman,

Independent and willing,

Ready to call your own shots,

You could be good for me,

What could I do for you?

I could hold you tight,

Each and every night,

Help count the stars above,

I could hold your hand,

Be an answer to your lonely nights,

Fill your waiting arms,

Discover your many charms,

And be there for you,

You are so many things to me,

And I like you just the way,

You are.

"Sweaty and Dirty" (Part Three)

Relationships aren’t easy, but when your trust is strong,

Your love will outgrow your heart, you can’t go wrong,
Right now your heart is focused on your friend,
Take time to discover what you want, let your heart mend,

So far, I’ve not been impressed with how you’ve treated me,
When you’re ready to accept me as I am, then we’ll see,
I think your heart is too small within your chest,
I’ll be your friend and nothing more, I think that’s best,”

I left her in her doorway, her gaze fixed on my back,
She had things to think about, things she might lack,
A few weeks later her call woke me from dreams,
“Talk to me,” she said, “I need to face the truth it seems,”

“You told me the truth but I thought you were wrong,
I didn’t realize I was weak, and you were that strong,
I want to know you and not what you can become,
You made me see myself, how I treated you like scum,”

At first we talked and shared about superficial things,
As we relaxed we considered what the future might bring,
Yet as we talked I wondered if she would ever love me,
Would she share my dreams and forget her reverie?

That was the first night, there were several yet to come,
I wanted to love her, I truly tried, but my heart was numb,
She gradually changed as she looked within her heart,
She loved me for me, but I didn’t know where to start,

I was still her friend, I thought that was for the best,
And I knew her heart had grown, deep within her chest,
I knew I liked her, even loved her, but I couldn’t trust,
Was her heart really open, had she cleared away the rust?

Three months had passed, it seemed an eternity,
We went out to dine, she had invited me,
She said, “My heart has grown, deep within my chest,
I can’t contain my love,” (and perhaps you know the rest),

It was difficult for her to hide her fright,
Her small voice quavered ever so slight,
When she asked, “Are my breasts too small?”
She was exposing thoughts, fears, her very all,

She had pulchritude, talent, and intelligence,
Everything I thought was of the essence,
Her eyes searched mine hoping to find,
That I had forgiven her and made up my mind,

If I loved her, she needed desperately to know,
More than a friendship, she wanted love to grow,
Who knows if I was thinking, but I took a chance,
I wanted a relationship with true romance,

She was a changed person, she loved me for me,
A deep love without conditions, all it could be,
She had finally decided she could settle for poor,
She didn’t know that she was really getting more,

I was hired by a company that was starting to grow,
Within a few years I became the CEO,
And Staci got someone who would treat her like a queen,
Forever and always, and the time in between.

My Son, Listen to My Words of Wisdom

My son, there are a few things you ought to know,
First off, don’t eat the yellow snow,
When a girl tells you she likes you as a friend,
She means, adios, goodbye, the end,
The tongue has the power of life and death,
Say something nice, or save your breath,
When you think you know something, speak out,
Listen and look wise, when in doubt,
Son, life has no easy answers on how to be smart,
Being always observant is quite an art,
If you look at the friends who surround you,
Your own character comes into view,
When people are angry, listen to what they say,
For what they believe is true will come your way,
Now for the things that can make you better,
Hold these truths close right to the letter,
If you hold anger inside and don’t turn it loose,
It won’t be long before you stew in your own juice,
In colloquial terms, you have to dig,
If you stir a stink, it only gets big,
If you’re knee high in clover you’re doing well,
You’ve hit pay dirt as time will tell,
If you’ve got it made in the shade,
You have no worries, your fortune is made,
The best things in life are not gold or shiny rings,
Love, respect, and honor, are what happiness brings,
Be a person of action, be a person of thought,
Keep out of trouble and do what you ought,
You are wise when you know others and what they say or do,
You are wiser yet, when you really understand you,
My son, I’ll tell you a secret, don’t ever get old,
It’s only for the tough, the simple, and those who are bold,
Now for the real things you asked me about,
The differences between sexes that you have doubts,
If you think you understand women you’re in danger,
The simple truth? Men are strange, women are stranger,
Know that women think differently than a man,
You’ll always be wrong if you don’t understand,
If you ever think you’re perfect, it’s time for a wife,
She’ll love you and correct you the rest of your life,
Men want women to stay the same always,
Women want men to be different every day,
Women can’t keep secrets, you should know that,
If you have a secret to keep, keep it under your hat,
Love builds bridges across unchartered lands,
Everyone is richer, no matter which side you stand,
Love can be magical when your heart it does claim,
Love also can be an illusion that you’ll never tame,
Love takes normal things and dims the light,
You won’t see faults and everything looks right,
A beautiful woman? If you wish to be wise too,
A beautiful woman is the one who loves you,
The best thing in life I hope you soon learn,
Is to love completely and be loved in return.

One Autograph for a Ten Year Old

One Request to the Famous
A ten year old boy lies quietly in bed,
He’d rather be outside playing instead,
His spirit is strong as he welcomes each day,
As he looks at the tubes that keep him at bay,
His smile is there even when he’s in pain,
His treatments are dreadful but he rarely complains,
He’s a brave young man unless tempted to cry,
When he sees the fear in someone’s eyes,
Too young for cancer to put him in strife,
But it’s there uninvited to control his life,
The doctors are doing the best they can do,
They’re waiting to see if the chemo comes through,
Being careful with our words to keep his spirits high,
To meet his wishes the family would like to try,
Signatures he’s requested to place on his board,
From celebrities who are willing of their own accord,
Although bedridden, his eyes would dance,
Knowing someone out there gives him a chance,
Leukemia is not an easy disease to subdue,
Signatures would lift his spirits, perhaps from you,
If you’re a star in sports, music, or screen,
It will make his day for your name to be seen,
Politicians and writers, you’re included too,
Please be sure you include what you do,
If you’re a friend or relative of a fabulous star,
Send those autographs from wherever you are,
His condition is critical, he’s confined to a bed,
The hospital has limits, and no visitors can tread,
If you can meet his request just simply reply,
Mail a short note with autograph to the little guy,
If you would like his address to be sent,
Ask me for his information in a comment.

Changing the Future by Looking at the Past

Changing the Future by Looking at the Past
This year the earth revealed its splendor,
I watched keenly and wrote with joy,
As each delicious moment appeared,
The pleasures were mine to enjoy,
Yet I knew everything in my path,
Was not deserved, whether good or bad,
Possessions and talents squandered,
The things I wanted or thought I had,
Slipped dancing before my eyes,
Laughs I’ve given and sorrows, too,
Started coming back, one at a time,
Returning as Capistrano’s swallows do,
Time elapsed quickly like sand in a glass,
Keeping me mindful of family and friends,
I invested in friendship and gave love away,
Stayed vulnerable, bending with the winds,
My yesterdays were counted and gone,
Once spent, no way to pull them back,
But each day was a bonus and not my last,
That’s why I am so very determined,
To change the future by looking at the past,
Each day I’ll do an unexpected good,
Because everybody is broken in some way,
I’ll reach out to those who feel misunderstood,
I’ll be encouraging, patient and gentle every day,
I’ll try to make this year even better,
For there is still so much to be done,
I’ll lead by example, helping with love,
Reaching out to the world, one by one.

A Nobody

Although I am Nobody
I am a nobody,
I can go anywhere and not be mobbed or recognized,
Travel around the country, around the state, or even in town,
Talk to friends, big shots, or other nobodies,
I enjoy my measure of anonymity,
Yet I have talents not exercised,
Within me are golden treasures,
Stored and protected,
Spun out by centrifugal force,
Collected on the walls of my own chamber,
But thoughts and words only proclaim,
Possibly I could grab a measure of fame,
With a little luck and a lot of hard work,
Enjoy the glory, enjoy the luxury,
Yet along with the fame comes the pain,
The loneliness of being special, but not normal anymore,
Not always seeing the world without the world watching you,
The isolation while in a crowd,
The idea of not really knowing which are friends,
And which will run when the money is done,
Being mobbed, swarmed, roughed up,
Treated special, but always in danger of being,
Swindled, threatened, or stalked,
If I could have had fame, I would have balked,
A game of names and glitter and phoniness,
Although I am a nobody, I am more than some of the somebodies,
Because I know who I am and where I’ve been,
Some of the somebodies might drown in the adulation of anybodies,
Or nobodies, while acting out what is real and what is not,
Just dancing to please the crowd of anybodies,
I think I won’t change, if it’s all the same to you.
